Cross Training Chaos

So I’ve had my MRI, no stress fracture but still no definitive answers but a couple of potential leads. Meanwhile I’m still not running. Hoping to hear from physio next week to see what next steps (see what I did there) are but meanwhile not running. Did I mention I’m not running?

I am not very motivated but after my friend sorted out my gym booking cock up and got me unblocked I felt I ought to book something and give it a go.

I got to Pilates this morning in plenty of time and went to the cardio machines first. I did the cross trainer while listening to my podcast and remembered that I needed to sign in again before my class (the failure to do so previously had led to my being blocked). I even had time to ask if they had my yoga mat in lost property. I had accused my husband of tidying my car and removing it but he proved to be innocent as it was indeed in lost property. This meant I had a yoga mat instead of an old bed roll to use and things were looking up.

My friend had saved me a space at the back in the corner and I was winning at life. I had to adapt some of the moves as it hurt my foot but otherwise things were going well. Not long afterwards a member of staff from the gym peeked into the hall where we were doing the Pilates and I noticed he was looking at me. I was the other side from the door and he came straight towards me. He then asked if it was possible that I had picked up someone else’s keys. I suddenly realised that that moment of self satisfaction when I had seen “my” keys next to my bag after the cross trainer session was misplaced. I grabbed my bag, picked my way through all the people doing Pilates and outside the hall where delving into my bag I managed to produce the keys. After apologising I sneaked back into the hall and finished the session.

My friend was amused by my thievery but as we left the building there was a familiar ping from my earphones. The ping has saved me many times and it means that I am out of range from my phone. I turned my earphones off and my friend phoned my phone. No sound. I went back into the hall where they had heard my phone go off (still Muppets Christmas Carol, really no point in changing now before Christmas). Luckily there was not a class in there just the instructor and some people from the class that I had been in. I thanked them and left.

I really, really need to get running again soon. At least out on the trails there is no-one to see me fail! Portsmouth Costal Ultra 8 weeks away and counting.
